Mikhail Malevich was born in 1957 in Leningrad (St.-Petersburg). He studied composition under N. Osetrova – Yakovleva and S. Volfenzon in a musical school. In 1981 he graduated from Leningrad Conservatoire (class of composition with Prof. B. Arapov). Since 2002 Malevich has been working as a teacher of composition and accompanist in a musical school.
Since 1996 Malevich composes mostly music of sacred theme by verses of divine service and of Russian classical and contemporary poetry for choir and solo vocal.
Many of his choral compositions are written for children’s choir. Some of them, published in note issues «Christmas Candle» and «Eastertide», have gained acceptance of the audience in many Russian cities. For some years Malevich has organized Christmas and Еаster concerts (which mainly consisted of his own works) in best concert halls of St.-Petersburg, such as The Small Hall of Philharmonic, Cappella, The concert hall of Alexandro-Nevskaya Lavra and others.
Malevich has collaborated for many years with such choirs as «Orfos», сhildren’s choirs «Consonance», «Iskra(Spark)», female ensemble «Anima», conductor Iliya Chernousov, soloists Maria Petrova and Alexander Byron.
Church compositions by Malevich has been performed both on divine service and in concerts in Russia, France, Italy, Poland.
Since 2004 Malevich has been the chairman of jury of Alexandro-Nevskiy sacred and patriotic song festival .
Among his works are choreographic composition «A Way Home» for choir and orchestra(1987), «Burning» for soprano, choir and instrumental ensemble(1989), «On Kulikovo field» for baritone, choir and orchestra(1995), cantatas «Autumn song»(1981), «Christmas Candle»(1996), «c»(2002), vocal cycles by A. Blok verses(1991) and N. Orekhova verses(2007). |
